DB Schenker Company Profile

DB Schenker is a global provider of integrated logistics services, moving people and goods around the world via ship, air and rail.

DB Schenker began in Vienna in 1872. The company was founded by Gottfried Schenker and the first rail shipment was from Paris to Vienna in 1873. The company expanded rapidly, opening offices in Bucharest, Budapest and Prague.

In 1895, Schenker founded the Austro-Americana Shipping Company. In 1922 Schenker flew the first air freight shipments in Germany. Deutsche Bahn AG (German Railways) bought Schenker in 1931 and introduced the first sea freight container shipments. Over the decades the company grew in leaps and bounds and in 1991 Stinnes AG bought a majority share from German Railways and split the company into two parts – Schenker International and Schenker Eurocargo.

1997 saw Schenker divesting itself of its bulk cargo business and concentrating on logistics and moves. Since December 2007, DB Schenker has been the freight logistics subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn. The company employs over 66,600 people in 2,000 places across the globe.

DB Schenker has the following affiliations and accreditations:

  • DIN EN ISO 9001:2008
